Tremaun

There is no date on this list of the tenants of Tremane, but it seems likely that it dates somewhere around the time of Griffiths Valuations.

The list includes Martin, Peter (Summers) and Bartholomew Somers.  No other list shows the three together in Tremane/Tromaun.  The Tithe Applotments show a Bartholomew in Moydo, Thomas in Scregg, Thomas in Glanregavh, and Michael in Correboughlin as well as a Michael and Henry further north in French Park

Griffith's Valuations find Patrick and various John's in Tromaun, Michael in Cornmaddy, Martin in Toberdan  and Martin in Scregg.

Valuation records after Griffith's show various Somers in those and surrounding townlands. Trying to sort them into connected families is the top of my list  ...  after I get all of the wonderful records I found while I was in Dublin filed into their proper places.

DNA shows that we are indeed related to Jacqueline, with a 4.7 on Gedmatch.  This indicates a close relationship of her ancestors to Margaret.

In fact if Margaret was a sister to her ancestor we would probably be fourth or fifth cousins.  The DNA results would suggest that they were at least cousins.

As I've gone through the records, I also am left unsure about the parents of Margaret, Peter and Michael.  The Roscommon Heritage Center named them as Martin Somers and Mary Curley, however, I have not found any verifying information and am very open to them being the children of any other the Somers families in the area in the early 1800s.

This is a link to the spreadsheet where I have recorded all the land records I located.  Additional sheets show some of the families I have been trying to put together.  I hope that others researching their Somers ancestors in the area around Tremane will suggest corrections and additions to what I have.  It is a work in progress and connections are only guesses at this point.

A Little bit of Magic

Early this week I had a Facebook Friend request.  After checking it out and noting the names Somers and Geraghty I quickly accepted.  Shortly there after I got a message from Jacqueline thanking me for accepting the request and that she had seen my blog post on the Somers and Wisconsin and that she was living in Roscommon and would like to connect.

Well here I was in Dublin, planning my trip to Athlone on Thursday....so I boldly said I'd love to connect how about in person.

How did I get so lucky!!!!

Tromaun Cemetery

Not only did I meet a true family and locality historian but I got a wondrous tour of the family townlands and cemeteries.

So never tell me there are no fairies.  It had to be some kind of magic that that request came when it did.  A week later and I would have missed out on the opportunity of a lifetime!
